interfluidity Surge!

Supply might not be elastic. But Uber tells us so.

"There is no solid case that price-rationing is optimal or even remotely a good idea when dispersion of purchasing power is very large. "

"people have a strong preference for price-predictability over immediate access"

My Ferguson Problem - NYTimes.com

My Ferguson Problem - NYTimes.com:

we can afford to undertake reforms to reduce incarceration rates and limit “warrior cop” (and related) excesses, and that conservatives, in particular, have both a moral obligation to take the lead in such reforms (as many conservative-governed states and some national Republican politicians have done) and a political incentive to show minority communities that the G.O.P. is capable of questioning abuses of state power (and unionized overreach!) even when it isn’t a Republican constituency getting the short end of the stick.

Stumbling and Mumbling: The economic base of virtue

Stumbling and Mumbling: The economic base of virtue

ResPublica's call for more virtue in banking looks like it is out of step with our times. This is an indictment not of ResPublica, but of our times. In fact, virtue is necessary for a healthy free market economy because virtuous men do the right thing without law, and so virtue is an alternative to an arms race between ever-increasing regulation and ever more cunning attempts to game such regulation. Free markets, in this sense, need a moral framework.
